Her mother raised her throughout the USA she had to face many racial slurs which gave her feeling of being unwelcome. It was in her ninth grade that she gained confidence following her acclaim in an audition. This not only increased her confidence but her ambitions transformed. In the year 22 she graduated in the Julliard School of New York. When she was 23, she started her professional career, making her debut at the Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman and in films in You've got Mail. The biggest success of her career came when she played The Lady Of The Lake on Spamalot's first Broadway production. In addition to being the only actress to receive the Tony Award, but her performance was also praised by critics. Following that she was made the lead character the character Dr. Callie Torres in ABC's Grey's Anatomy. This led to her gaining wider fame. Known as a singer she also released a single and an extended show. Additionally, she works as an LGBT activist.
